In today’s ultra connectedness generation, solitude is a lost art and an absolute necessity. We have forgotten what it feels to enjoy being alone.

Bianca Sparacino, a writer from Toronto, in her Seeds Planted in Concrete, says, “Be alone. Eat alone, take yourself on dates, sleep alone. In the midst of this, you will learn about yourself. You will grow, you will figure out what inspires you, you will curate your own dreams, your own beliefs, your own stunning clarity, and when you do meet the person who makes your cells dance, you will be sure of it, because you are sure of yourself.”

Solitude is where you find yourself so that you can reach out to other people and form real attachments.

When we don’t have the capacity for solitude, we turn to other people in order to feel less anxious or in order to feel alive. When this happens, we’re not able to appreciate who they are. It’s as though we’re using them as spare parts to support our fragile sense of self.
